Super Bowl Predicitons

Considering it’s Super Bowl week, our bloggers give their predictions for the big game.

I hope it’s an epic game but I just feel like it’s Peyton’s year and John Fox is such an underrated coach, plus I kind of hate Pete Carroll…I kind of like Denver, 23-13 — Walter M.

I’ve been undecided about this game for the whole week, and since I have to make a decision, I’m going Denver 27-24. I agree with Walter, it is Peyton’s year. It’ll be cool to see him win a Super Bowl in Eli’s city. I expect a great game though.– JStyles

Seattle bout that action boss. Seattle 24- Denver 20 — J. Pettis

I don’t know nothing about football.– PressStyles

5 Things We Learned From Week 9

Week 9 is a wrap, and we have the 5 things we learned here at Swickass.

1. Last week in my 5 Things from Week 8 I called the Jets defeating the Saints, due to their odd and even season. The Jets have won all of their odd number games this year, and lost all of their even number games. And it continued Sunday as they defeated the New Orleans Saints 26-20. Geno Smith went 8-19 for 115 yards with no INTS, and the Jets running attack got going as Chris Ivory rushed for 139 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown against his former team. The Jets have a bye week this Sunday, but you can pencil them in to win next Sunday at Buffalo.

http://sinfl.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/chris-ivory-new-york-jets-new-orleans-saints.jpg?w=600&h=425

2. If you thought Peyton Manning was going to be the only QB this season to throw for seven touchdowns in a game you were wrong. As Nick Foles became the seventh quarterback in NFL to throw for seven tds in a game as the Eagles annihilated the Raiders 49-20. Foles had a crazy stat line as he went 22/28 for 406 yards to go with those 7 touchdowns and he had no INTS. Remember Foles had a great game against the Bucs earlier this year, and followed it up with a awful game against the Cowboys the following week. Lets hope Foles remains hot when the Eagles take on the Packers this weekend.

3. Don’t look now, but we had a CJ2k citing over the weekend as Chris Johnson exploded for 150 yards to go with two touchdowns on 23 carries. As the Titans defeated the Rams 28-21. CJ wasn’t the only running back that feasted on Sunday, as St. Louis Rams rookie sensation Zac Stacy rushed for 127 yards on 27carries to go with 2 touchdowns. Lets see if CJ keeps it up this week against Jacksonville.

4. Tom Brady looks like he got back into his groove as the Patriots defeated the Steelers 55-31. Brady 22-33 for 432 yards for 4 tds. Brady will only get better as the games get more meaningful.

5. Bears get a huge win on Monday night. In a game where the Bears weren’t favored to win by many experts. But they got the job done as they defeated the Packers 27-20. Aaron Rodgers left the game early in the 1st quarter with a shoulder injury. Then it turned into the backup bowl. As the Bears were already without starting QB Jay Cutler who’s nursing a groining injury. They got a big boost from backup QB Josh McCown and star running back Matt Forte. McCown went 22-41 for 272 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Forte rushed for 125 yards and scored one td. Aaron Rodgers found out later that he had fractured collarbone which is expected to sideline him for 4-6 weeks. Lets see if Seneca Wallace can carry the Packers for the next several weeks as Rodgers recovers. We hope Rodgers has a speedy recovery.

5 Things We Learned From Week 8

Another week of the NFL have come and gone. Here are the 5 Things We Learned From This week.

1. Geno Smith, and the New York Jets are way too inconsistent to be taken serious. After defeating the Patriots in week 7, and Geno Smith probably having his best game of his young NFL career. Geno and the Jets followed that up, with their worst game of the year by getting embarrassed by the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday 49-9. Geno was awful going 20-30 for 159yds, 2 interceptions, and a QBR of 4.1. If they continue their up and down roller coaster like season, they should upset the Saints at home this Sunday.

2. Remember when the Eagles hired Chip Kelly this off-season and everyone had high expectations for their offense? Now eight games into the season Vick can’t stay healthy, leaving Sundays game after re-aggravating his hamstring. The backup to Vick is Nick Foles, who was also out with a concussion. So the Eagles turned to rookie quarterback Matt Barkley to step in. And it turns out that the Eagles offense isn’t who we thought they were.  Eagles gained a total of 200 yards on offense Sunday while losing to the Giants 15-7. Those 7points were scored on special teams. Eagles are 3-5 on the season, and haven’t won at home all year. The Giants have won two games in a row and are now 2-6 heading to their bye week.

https://i1.wp.com/a.espncdn.com/photo/2013/1006/nfl_a_mvickts_200x300.jpg

3. When Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos spot you a 21-7 lead you’re suppose to take advantage of that. And the Washington Redskins didn’t, as the Broncos scored 38pts unanswered on Sunday to defeat the Redskins 45-21. Peyton started off slow turning the ball over 4xs, but bounced back to to throw for 354 yards and four touchdowns. Broncos have a bye this week, but face the undefeated Chiefs in week 10.

https://i1.wp.com/cdn3.sbnation.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/21879027/186042673.0_standard_352.0.jpg

4. Don’t look now, but the Green Bay Packers finally have a consistent running game with rookie sensation Eddie Lacy. The Packers defeated the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday 44-31. Eddie Lacy carried the ball 29 times for 94 yards and a td. While Green Bays other running back James Starks chipped in with 7 carries for 57 yards and a td. The Packers now host the Bears this Monday night at home. The Bears need to be prepared for the Packers new two headed monster.

5. Calvin Johnson maybe the greatest wide receiver that has ever walked this planet. I always thought that Jerry Rice was the greatest WR I’d see in my lifetime, but now I’m second guessing myself. As Calvin Johnson torched the Cowboys DBs for 329 receiving yards and 1 touchdown. The catches he made were unbelievable as well as his stat line. Calvin came up eight yards short of being the first receiver in NFL history with the most receiving yards in a game. Matthew Stafford lead the Lions down the field in epic fashion as he lunged over the Cowboys defense at the 1 yard line with 12 seconds left to defeat the Cowboys 31-30.  This was easily the best Football game of the entire season so far.

5 Things We Learned From Week 7

Week 7 of the NFL was the week of the injuries, as Doug Martin, Jay Cutler, Nick Foles, Lance Briggs, Charles Tillman, Sam Bradford, and Reggie Wayne just to name a few. All left their games with injuries.

1. The Jets finally beat the Patriots to end their six game losing streak against the Pats, and the Pats also saw their 12 game winning streak against the AFC East come to a end by falling 30-27. Geno Smith went 17/33 for 233yards with a td, and 1 INT. He also ran for a touchdown. It was suppose to be a losing season for the Jets where they weren’t expected to win many games, and Rex Ryan was suppose to get fired. But after seven weeks the Jets sit at 4-3. The Pats are now at 5-2 for the season. Is Geno Smith really the long term answer in New York at qb? That’s something time will tell. Although the Patriots lost, I still say they win the AFC East. https://i1.wp.com/cdn3.sbnation.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/19239581/20130908_gav_ae5_418.0_standard_352.0.jpg

2. Break out the Panthers as they have won a season high 2 games in a row by defeating the Rams on Sunday 30-15. Cam Newton went 15/17 for 204 yards, and 1 touchdown. I’m believing in this Panthers front seven as they racked up 4 sacks against the Rams. Rams lost their QB Sam Bradford for the remainder of the year with a torn ACL. Looks like the Panthers season is going one way, and the Rams season is going in the complete opposite. https://i0.wp.com/www.gannett-cdn.com/-mm-/38a79a3f486f1ebff4ef130cb35772594a82b466/c=91-71-2811-2116&r=x404&c=534x401/local/-/media/USATODAY/USATODAY/2013/10/20/1382301879000-USP-NFL-St-Louis-Rams-at-Carolina-Panthers.jpg

3. We had a shootout in Detroit, as the Bengals offense out lasted the Lions offense…Thanks to the Bengals kicker Mike Nugent for kicking the game winner as time expired to win 27-24….This game had two of the best receivers in the NFL in Calvin Johnson, and AJ Green. An they didn’t disappoint.  Calvin Johnson went for 155 yards receiving to go along with 2 touchdowns. His most impressive touchdown was a 50 yard touchdown where he caught it in triple coverage. Yes this is a catch that you’ll only see in Madden. If you haven’t seen it, google it. AJ Green matched Calvin with 155 yards receiving, and added a touchdown of his own. The Bengals move to 5-2 on the season, as the Lions fall to 4-3. https://i2.wp.com/img.bleacherreport.net/img/images/photos/002/564/401/ScreenShot2013-10-20at12.47.20PM_crop_north.png

4. The 49ers dominated the Titans by defeating them 31-17. 49ers look like they’re using Colin Kaepernick the way they used him last year, and that’s putting the ball in his hand and letting him run. Kaepernick ran for 68 yards on 11 rushes. His longest run was for 20yards which he scored a touchdown on.  If the 9ers continue to use Kaepernick the way they did last year there’s going to be many defensive coordinators losing sleep on Saturday nights before facing off against Kaepernick. https://i2.wp.com/l.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/2y5LVItscBBB8unN2.Onrw--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7Zmk9ZmlsbDtoPTQyMTtweG9mZj01MDtweW9mZj0wO3E9NzU7dz03NDk-/http://media.zenfs.com/en_us/News/ap_webfeeds/743f55f46203c523400f6a706700510a.jpg

5. Last but not least we have the game of the week in which the Broncos took on the Colts. Yes, the game that’s been promoted all over television for the past several weeks has finally happened. Peyton Manning lead the 6-0 Broncos back to Indy to take on Andrew Luck and the Colts. Peyton scored the first td of the game, but after that it was the Andrew Luck show. As he ran for a touchdown and threw for three more to lead the Colts to the 39-33 upset. I’ll be honest, I was cheering for the Broncos due to Jim Irsay running his mouth all week. But the Broncos had a off night, and the Colts took advantage of that. The only negative for the Colts in this game, is that they lost Reggie Wayne for the season to a torn ACL. They need to find a way to replace his production for the remainder of the season. The Colts are now 5-2 on the year. I hope these two teams meet again in the playoffs.

Five Things We Learned From Week 3 Of The NFL

1.     The Colts look like the real deal defeating the NFC champs San Francisco 49ers 27-7. The Colts running game looks great with the 1-2punch in Ahmad Bradshaw and Trent Richardson. Bradshaw was the star back rushing for 95yards and a TD on 19 carries. Keep in mind Trent wasn’t used much in his first game as a Colt rushing for 39 yards and a td on 13 carries. That will change as the season goes on and he understands the playbook.

2.     I think it’s safe to say the Jacksonville Jaguars is the worst team in the NFL. Yes they’re worse than the Cleveland Browns. The Jaguars lost to the Seattle Seahawks 45-17. The Jaguars will certainly be in the discussion for the 2014 NFL number 1 pick.

https://i0.wp.com/www.washingtonpost.com/rf/image_404h/2010-2019/Wires/Online/2013-09-24/AP/Images/Jaguars%20Seahawks%20Football.JPEG-0ea65.jpg

3.     The Cowboys look like a real threat to win the NFC East. They defeated the St Louis Rams 31-7 on Sunday. If Romo doesn’t have his late season collapse we’re accustomed to seeing the Cowboys may finally make the playoffs for the first time since 2009.

https://i0.wp.com/media.nbcdfw.com/images/620*349/cowboys31rams7.jpg

4.     The Browns aren’t tanking on the season. After the Trent Richardson trade everyone expected the Browns to tank the rest of the season to get a high draft pick so they can draft a Franchise Quarterback. But lead by backup QB Brian Hoyer they defeated the Minnesota Vikings on the road 31-27.

5.     The Bears had a statement game Sunday night. Going on the road and defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers on a national televised game 40-23 . Bears defense forced five turnovers, and the Bears offensive line is keeping Jay Cutler up and not allowing him to get sacked early on. If this good play continues lookout.

https://i1.wp.com/cdn2.sbnation.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/20001261/181612271.0_standard_400.0.jpg

6.     I know I said five things but I’m making two execptions for the Manning brothers. This is the best regular season quarterback in NFL history and one of the greatest QBs of my time. There’s no stopping him as he put on another clinic against the Oakland Raiders last night passing for 3 TDS and defeating them 37-21. Peyton now has 12 tds on the season and he doesn’t look like he has any plans to slow down. The Philadelphia Eagles have a problem on their hands this Sunday when they fly to Denver to take on the Broncos.

https://i2.wp.com/cdn0.sbnation.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/197891/20120923_jla_ac4_136_standard_1348759770_352.jpg

Manning and the New York Giants fail to 0-3 on Sunday by getting embarrassed by the Carolina Panthers 31-0. The Giants are 0-3 for the first time since 1996. The Giants have several problems one problem is not protecting Eli Manning who’s tied for 2nd in the NFL in being sacked. Giants need to get their running game and defense in order.  The Giants will look for their first win this weekend against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Things We Learned From Week 1 Of The NFL

https://i2.wp.com/ww1.hdnux.com/photos/17/26/20/4023328/3/628x471.jpg

We learned that Colin Kaepernick is the real deal. I know people were curious about how Colin would do in his first full season in the NFL as a starter and I’m sure he answered those questions leading the 49ers to a 34-28 win over the Green Bay Packers. And for those of you that said Kaepernick is a run first QB he silenced you critics too. He ran 7 times for 22yards, but he threw for 412yards on 27/39 throwing attempts with 3 tds and no INTS. Look for the 49ers to be in the NFC title game this season and maybe even a return to the Super Bowl.

http://sinfl.files.wordpress.com/2013/09/terrelle-pryor-oakland-raiders-indianapolis-colts.jpg?w=600&h=425

Terrelle Pryor looks pretty darn good as a NFL starting quarterback. Now if you recall Terrelle Pryor was drafted in the supplemental draft back in 2011 after he was kicked out of school due to him accepting money for memorabilia. This is Pryors 3rd year in the NFL, but by all accounts he’s still learning on the job considering he didn’t play much in his first two years. Pryor showed that he’s made major improvements inn his mechanics. He rushed for 112 yards and threw for 217 yards becoming the 7th quarterback to throw for at least 200 yards  and run for at least 100 during a regular season game. Although the Raiders loss due to Pryor throwing a late game interception, he was named the starter for this weeks matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Look for Pryor to improve as the season rolls on.

We witnessed  9 starting black quarterbacks in the opening week of the NFL. Russell Wilson, Colin Kaepernick, Robert Griffin III, Michael Vick, Cam Newton, Terrelle Pryor, Geno Smith, Ej Manuel, and Josh Freeman. That’s a major step for the NFL, considering that the quarterback position isn’t played by black players. It looks like something we will see more considering that the new age quarterback is a dual threat who can run and throw. http://thegrio.files.wordpress.com/2013/09/black-quarterbacks-nfl.jpg?w=650

Chip Kelly’s offense looks like the real deal, and it will certainly cause problems for teams around the league. Monday night the Eagles kicked off their season against the Washingston Redskins.  The Eagles offense which is led by Michael Vick and Lesean Mccoy looked electric running 53 plays all in the first half. They did whatever they wanted to and had the Redskins gassed and confused. Michael Vick looks more comfortable and having a healthy offensive line contributes to that. The are Eagles easily the fastest offense in the NFL. Eagles let up a bit in the 2nd half which sparked a Redskins comeback, but they held on to win 33-27. If Vick can stay healthy for a full year and play the way he played against the Skins he will hear his name pop in the MVP discussion.

  http://cbsphilly.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/michael-vick-and-chip-kelly.jpg?w=385&h=240&crop=1

Finally we learned that Adrian Peterson and Peyton Manning haven’t missed a beat. Peterson opened up his game against the Lions with a 78 yard td run, and finished the game with 93 yards on the ground on 18 attempts and 3 touchdowns two running and one receiving. Peyton Manning torched the Super Bowl winning Baltimore Ravens for seven touchdowns.  If week 1 was a sign of things to come we can expect another great NFL season.
