Weeks ago Pat Riley told reporters don’t expect the Heat to amnesty Mike Miller…I guess Riley had a change of heart, as the Heat amnestied Mike Miller yesterday. Riley told USA today “After many discussions internally and a sincere effort to explore the trade market, we made a very difficult decision to use our amnesty provision on Mike Miller,” Riley said in a statement. “Mike had an incredible impact on the Miami Heat; helping us to three Finals appearances and winning back-to-back world championships. This was a very difficult decision for me personally, the Arison family, Erik (Spoelstra) and the entire Miami Heat organization. Mike was one of the best we have ever had here, and will be sorely missed. We wish Mike, his wife Jennifer and their family nothing but the best.” This is a big loss for the Heat. Miller didn’t do much the last two years during the regular season, but he was a big part to what the Heat did when the playoffs came around. Heat will still pay Miller the $12.8 million he’s owed over the next two years, but the Heat will save $16 million in luxury tax. Miller told USA today “One thing I’ve learned through 13 years of basketball is the business side of it, and I completely understand it,” Miller said. “But I’ve got a lot of basketball left. This is the best I’ve felt in five years and that might have something to do with the fact that I haven’t played (much). Sometimes, there’s light at the end of the tunnel even when you’re frustrated.” Miller leaves Miami with two championship rings. Look for Miller to join a championship contending team. Clippers, Spurs, Nets, Thunder, and Rockets come to mind.
Clippers have finally traded their biggest trade bait in Eric Bledsoe. Clippers completed a three team trade with the Phoenix Suns, and Milwaukee Bucks. Bledsoe and Caron Butler went to the Suns, Jared Dudley, and JJ Redick went to the Clippers, and the Bucks received two 2nd round picks. Redick signed a 4-year deal worth 27million with the Clippers in a sign and trade to make this deal work. The Clippers get two shooters that they needed to spread the floor, while the Suns get their PG of the future in Eric Bledsoe to team up with their Center of the future in Alex Len, and a veteran leader in Caron Butler. Bucks had no chance of resigning JJ Redick so I know they’re just excited to receive two 2nd round picks. This deal puts more expectations on the Clippers to be a championship caliber team next year, and to compete for a championship year in and year out. I thought they could of got more for Bledsoe, but I understand they acquired players they needed. I would take Dudley right now over Butler at this point in Butlers career. An JJ Redick is the deadly shooter they needed as well. I still feel that the Clippers need a big man with that can have his back to the basket to score. But they’re on the right track in improving their roster to compete for a championship. Once they acquire that big man you can certainly lookout for them to make noise in the forever improving Western Conference.
Clippers have finally got their head coach. After two week tug-a-war with the Boston Celtics, the Clippers finally hired Doc Rivers. Clippers knew who they wanted all alone and they finally made it happen. Rivers signed a 3yr deal worth 21-million dollars. Clippers sent a unprotected first round pick in the 2015 draft to acquire Rivers. With this hiring of Doc Rivers the Clippers havenow shot up to be strong title contenders. I like the Doc Rivers hiring for the Clippers, he’s a proven winner who won 416 games in nine seasons with the Celtics which is third most in franchise history and a title in 2007. He now also has the title of Senior Vice President of player personnel with the Clippers. I like this hiring for the Clippers. I thought Donald Sterling would let Clippers nation down again, but he came through at the last minute to land a hall of fame coach. Now the Clippers must put together a roster to compete for championships and their first order of duties is resigning Chris Paul to a max deal. Which I think will happen come July 1st. They must also get the most out of Blake Griffin offensively. The athletic part is already there, but they need for him to develop a jump shot that’s consistent. There has already been rumors of a Eric Bledsoe for Aaron Affalo deal in place, but you can expect another player and picks to be apart of that trade. Clippers must also decide if Deandre Jordan is still the Center of the future for the franchise. I think if they can trade Deandre Jordan for a center who can have his back to the basket would help this team out in a major way. Plenty of things will get addressed this off-season, and this Clippers team will have high expectations this year..I just hope they’re ready for it.
