The Clock Is Ticking

For as long as I can remember I’ve been a life long Bulls fan. Dating back to the Jordan era, and until now. The one thing I hate about this franchise that upsets me the most, is when they are never able to bring in a big time SUPERSTAR through free agency. The best players that they’ve ever brought in are guys like Eddie Robinson (BUM), and Ron Mercer (BUM). They’ve struck out on stars like Grant Hill, and Tracy Mcgrady back in the day. Four years ago the Bulls struck out on Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh the three biggest names in free agency that year. But they settled for guys like Carlos Boozer (BUM), Kyle Korver, Ronnie Brewer, and CJ Watson. Basically guys that weren’t enough to win a championship aka Utah Jazz 2.0. I’ve always asked myself, “Why doesn’t anyone want to come to Chicago?”

Chicago is the third biggest market in America, and we can’t get anyone to come here. I know most recently the Bulls have fallen on bad luck, thanks to Derrick Rose missing the past two years due to injuries. But it has to be something the front office can do in order to bring in some big names to help this team. Now in 2014 the big talk is about bringing in Carmelo Anthony or Kevin Love. Two names that have been consistently brought up for the past two years. Do I think the Bulls can land one of these guys? NO! I think if we strikeout on Carmelo Anthony, we need to make a trade to acquire Kevin Love. And I don’t think you stop there, after we acquire Kevin Love, I think the Bulls need to make a trade for Aaron Afflalo. The shooting guard position has been our biggest weakness these last couple of years, and I think Afflalo addresses that need for us. But knowing our front office none of this will happen. Our front office sucks! Gar Forman, and John Paxson haven’t done a damn thing since they’ve been in control of this roster. The best thing they’ve done was draft Joakim Noah, and somehow the NBA blessed the Bulls with the number 1 pick back in 2008 so they could draft Derrick Rose. I think it’s time for the Bulls to get a whole new front office. I don’t know how you can’t get any big name stars to come to Chicago, when we all know Chicago sales itself! These guys are obviously doing something wrong, and I think as fans we need to DEMAND drastic changes if the front office can’t land Kevin Love or Carmelo Anthony this summer. We can’t waste the rest of the prime years we have in Noah, Butler, Gibson, and Rose. This summer will show me a lot about where this organization is headed, and I hope all Bulls fans feel the same.

Where Do The Bulls Go From Here?

https://i0.wp.com/sportsnetwork.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/derrick-rose.jpeg

On Friday night Derrick Rose suffered a right meniscus tear against the Portland Trailblazers, and he’s scheduled for surgery today putting his 2013-2014 season in jeopardy. Like most Bull fans, and NBA fans in general this injury news really stung for me. Not because it ruined the Bulls NBA title dreams, but because I’ve witnessed another terrible knee injury for Derrick Rose. This is a guy who did everything right by sitting out an entire year to rehab his knee just to come back a better player. Now he comes back this year, and injures his right knee is just unsettling. Now I’ve heard all the so called Bull fans, and NBA fans all around raise questions about Derrick Rose regarding his health. I even heard the word  “injury prone” being tossed around. People have already started raising doubt about him never being the same player again. I believe if Rose does the exact same thing for his right knee as he did for his left knee he will come back just fine. This injury should wake up the Bulls front office, and make them realize that they’re left with no choice and need to blow up this core. This team is a great team in the regular season, but come playoff time they don’t have enough scoring options to compete with the Miami Heat. I’ve always said you can’t win a championship with Luol Deng being your second best player. This isn’t a shot at Deng, because he’s a good player, but the Bulls need more than that from their second best player, and that’s something Deng can’t do. It’s been reported that Deng would like a raise in his salary (he’s currently making 14million), and that’s something the Bulls can’t do. Deng has piled up a lot of mileage on his body due to him ranking first in minutes played the last several years. Bulls missed plenty of opportunities to trade Deng for years especially when his value was high around the NBA after the 2011-2012 season when he made his first All Star team.  Now they’re left with no choice, but to trade him rather than watching him walk after the season. I’ve used the ESPN trade machine, and looked at some trades that may work for the Bulls if they finally decide to trade Deng.

Jameer Nelson And Aaron Afflalo for Luol Deng: Bulls can look to trade Teague, and have Jameer and Kirk run the point for the rest of the season. Kirk is a free agent after this year so you’re ultimately allowing Jameer to be your pg next year. In my opinion Afflalo is a guy that’s very underrated around the NBA. Is he enough for the Bulls at shooting guard? Maybe, and maybe not but it’s better than having two small forwards in your starting 5, and I’m sure Afflalo can provide more of a scoring punch than Deng.

Marcus Thornton and Jimmer Fredette for Luol Deng: I don’t like this trade at all, but if the Bulls are really looking to move Deng they could consider this. Jimmer is a free agent after this year and I think he could still be a solid player in the NBA if he’s used right. People have to remember the guy knows how to shoot the rock. I was more of a fan of Marcus Thornton when he was in New Orleans. I think he’s a solid player, but I’m not too sure if he’s a piece the Bulls need especially with him making 8million dollars the next two years (Remember the Bulls are cheap).

Eric Gordon For Luol Deng: I know no one likes this deal, and I dont blame you but if Gordon somehow stayed healthy for a full season it’s something I would consider. This would be a trade that helped both teams. The Pelicans need a small forward, and the Bulls desperately need a shooting guard that can score, and take some pressure off Derrick Rose. I know the Bulls have their dreams set on landing a big star in free agency, but lets be honest the Bulls haven’t been too successful at landing big name free agents. Unless you would like to consider Eddie Robinson, and Ron Mercer big names. If they don’t have confidence in landing Carmelo Anthony or Kevin Love this offseason and next this should be a trade they at least consider.

Personally I feel like the Bulls should trade Deng and tank the rest of the way so they can get a lottery pick in this highly talented 2014 NBA draft. But I know a Tom Thiboeau team would never do such a thing.

I’m not sure what’s the next move for the Bulls, but I do know they need a trade and reshape their roster. Rather that’s Deng or somebody else on this roster, I just know something needs to be done. I would probably say Noah, Rose, and maybe Butler are my untouchables. But anyone can be traded for the right offer. I’ve never put my hopes and dreams into John Paxson, and Gar Forman making moves to improve this roster. But I do know this injury may give everyone an idea about what kind of front office the Bulls have. Along with what they do in the next two offseasons.

And for everyone who thinks a trade isn’t possible just remember even Gilbert Arenas, and Joe Johnson got traded once. Just know that no contract is untradeable in the NBA.

I just pray Derrick Rose has a speedy recovery, and hope that he can continue his NBA career injury free.

NBA First Week In Review

The NBA season finally kicked off last Tuesday night, and I couldn’t be more excited. Here’s my first week assessment.

1. The Indiana Pacers are very good. Lead by superstar Paul George, they’re the only undefeated team left in the NBA. Lets not forget Danny Granger is out the first three weeks of the season nursing a calf injury. Look for them to be one of the top three teams in the Eastern Conference all year.

2. Dwight Howard looks like the Dwight of old. Yes he’s healthy, and FINALLY happy. Dwight is averaging 17.4ppg to go with 14.6 rpg. Expect to see great things from him and star shooting guard James Harden this year. The Houston Rockets biggest question mark to me is their defense, but they can certainly score with anyone in the league.

3. The Golden State Warriors look great. They’re off to a 4-1 start, and they’ll only get better as the season goes on. They have two lights out shooters in Steph Curry, and Klay Thompson that can carry the team on any giving night. Look for this team to continue to grow, and yes people they’re a legitimate NBA Finals team.

4. The Bulls have been awfully rusty to begin the 2013 campaign. As they’re off to a 1-3 start to begin the year. Derrick Rose has struggled shooting 28% from the field. They need to cut down on the turnovers, and score more on offense. Remember offense has been their biggest problem the last several years. No need to panic Bull fans I believe in Derrick Rose and this team.

5. The Suns, Bobcats, and the Sixers will compete every night. So much for the “Tank For Wiggins” idea everyone thought the bad teams around the NBA were doing. As these three teams have competed every night and they’re a combined 9-6. Yes each team is 3-2, but they’ve been in every game they played early on. As the Bobcats defeated the Raptors and Knicks, and the Sixers defeated the Heat and the Bulls. If these teams are planning on tanking they better do it sooner than later. The Suns look like they have a star in the making in Eric Bledsoe. No wonder why they call him mini Lebron. The Sixers look like they found their point guard of the future in Michael Carter Williams

6. The Knicks are sluggish out the gate starting off the year 1-3, and to make matters worse they’ve lost their leader on defense in center Tyson Chandler for 4-6 weeks due to a fractured right fibula. Who will step up while Chandler is out? Will that be Amar’e or Kenyon Martin? Knicks must get their defense in order, and get Melo on track. If they continue to lose games and give up points, how long will Mike Woodson remain the head coach? Lets not forget owner James Dolan expects a championship this year.

The season is still very young, but we look like we’re in store for another great NBA season.

Metta World Peace Is Heading Home

Metta World Peace. Who is a Queensbridge native is heading home. That’s right Metta who was recently amnestied by the Lakers has just signed with the New York Knicks. According to reports the deal for 2-years worth and is worth 3.1million dollars. 2nd year is a player option. Metta will still be paid 7.7million by the Lakers this year. Metta sounds excited he spoke with USA today “The team is amazing.I’m excited to play and hustle. I’m excited to hustle for (Raymond) Felton, for Iman (Shumpert), for Tyson (Chandler), Melo (Anthony), (Amar’e) Stoudemire, coach (Mike Woodson). That’s all it’s about right now. It has nothing to do with New York the city. The only thing that’s important is those players that I will be joining and touching the hardwood with. That’s all that’s important.” Metta brings a defensive mentality that the Knicks will need. He’ll be the tough guy for them as well. It’s a solid pickup for the Knicks. They have already acquired Andrea Bargnani this off-season. Will World Peace and Bargnani make them better than the Heat? We will see, but right now I would have to say no. The Knicks are still a top five team in the East. I still can’t rank them the best team in New York either (Thanks to Brooklyn). But it’s a long season, and anything can happen. I would say for the Knicks to not have any cap room I’d say they had a solid off-season. And if you guys were wondering Metta will wear his father’s old High School number (51) this year.
