Just last week the Celtics lost their two Hall Of Fame players, and their Hall Of Fame coach in Doc Rivers, Kevin Garnett, and Paul Pierce. Not to mention the Bruins lost to the Blackhawks in seven games to lose the Stanley Cup. Things seemed like everything was falling apart in Boston, but the Celtics made a very surprising move with their hiring of Brad Stevens the head basketball coach of Butler University. Celtics and Stevens agreed on a 6 year deal worth 22-million. Brad Stevens was wanted by many big basketball programs in College, but he turned them down to stay at Butler, but when the Celtics came calling he couldn’t refuse the opportunity. Stevens has been a winning coach throughout his six years at Butler going 166-49. In 2009-10 Stevens had his best season as Butler head coach leading the Bulldogs to a 33-5 record and going 18-0 in the Horizon league with a 25game win streak and a trip to the NCAA Championship where they lost to Duke. In a statement Stevens said “Our family is thrilled for the opportunity given to us by the leadership of the Boston Celtics, but it is emotional to leave a place that we have called home for the past 13 years,” Stevens said in a release issued by the university. “We truly love Butler University and Indianapolis, and are very thankful to have had the opportunity to celebrate so many wonderful things together.” Stevens is only 36 and is now apart of a rebuilding project with the Celtics. He’s well spoken of by other coaches and well players. Danny Ainge the GM of the Celtics said “Though he is young, I see Brad as a great leader who leads with impeccable character and a strong work ethic” Celtics general manager Danny Ainge said in a release. “His teams always play hard and execute on both ends of the court. Brad is a coach who has already enjoyed lots of success, and I look forward to working with him towards Banner 18.” Celtics aren’t expected to win much this year and their best player Rondo is recovering from knee surgery that knocked him out for the year, but according to reports he should be ready by training camp. It’ll take sometime for him to get back to himself. They have to ask themselves does Rajon Rondo want to be apart of a rebuilding team? They’ll be playing for lottery balls in hopes of landing Andrew Wiggins with the first pick in the 2014 draft. They’ll be rebuilding through the draft the next couple years. I want to know if the players will respect since he’s making the transition from College coach to NBA coach. Also I’m not too big on College coaches making the jump from being a College coach to being a NBA head coach. But Stevens has always been a winner, so we’ll see if he’s the man for the job, and if he can deliver the 18th banner for the Celtics.

Clippers have finally got their head coach. After two week tug-a-war with the Boston Celtics, the Clippers finally hired Doc Rivers. Clippers knew who they wanted all alone and they finally made it happen.  Rivers signed a 3yr deal worth 21-million dollars. Clippers sent a unprotected first round pick in the 2015 draft to acquire Rivers. With this hiring of Doc Rivers the Clippers havenow shot up to be strong title contenders. I like the Doc Rivers hiring for the Clippers, he’s a proven winner who won 416 games in nine seasons with the Celtics which is third most in franchise history and a title in 2007. He now also has the title of Senior Vice President of player personnel with the Clippers. I like this hiring for the Clippers. I thought Donald Sterling would let Clippers nation down again, but he came through at the last minute to land a hall of fame coach. Now the Clippers must put together a roster to compete for championships and their first order of duties is resigning Chris Paul to a max deal. Which I think will happen come July 1st. They must also get the most out of Blake Griffin offensively. The athletic part is already there, but they need for him to develop a jump shot that’s consistent. There has already been rumors of a Eric Bledsoe for Aaron Affalo deal in place, but you can expect another player and picks to be apart of that trade. Clippers must also decide if Deandre Jordan is still the Center of the future for the franchise. I think if they can trade Deandre Jordan for a center who can have his back to the basket would help this team out in a major way. Plenty of things will get addressed this off-season, and this Clippers team will have high expectations this year..I just hope they’re ready for it.
