2013 Halloween Trend = Blackface?

Everyday people, high profile fashion designers, and even celebrities have no filter and no boundary lines by revisiting the degrading trend of blackface.

What originally started as theater makeup for minstrel shows in the 19th century, as white people painting their face in black paint and feeding into stereotypical black activities, is once again emerging in 2013. In a attempt to have the most creative and over the top halloween costumes this year, people are taking it too far and are down right offensive.

8 hours ago the Huffington post published an article about high profile fashion designers, and others, partaking in the blackface culture as they disguised themselves to fit the theme of an African Halloween Disco Party in Italy yesterday.

Not to mention the several people think it’s ok to dress as Trayvon Martian for Halloween this year.

Clearly this blackface issue is turning into an ignorant, insensitive trend, and needs to be stopped. Halloween is about being spooky, creative, and fun so I hope you all think before you dress.
