Cub fans finally got a glimpse of the future by getting their first look at Junior Lake Friday night as he made his major league debut against the Colorado Rockies, and Lake didn’t disappoint. Lake went 3-4 in the Cubs 3-1 win over the Rockies. I’ve been reading about Lake for a couple of years now, so I was excited to finally see him play. Lake is a 23yr old from San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic. Lake signed with the Cubs as a undrafted free agent in 2007. Lake started the season slow with a back injury which caused him to only play in 40 games in Triple A, but still managed to hit 295. in those games. He was called up yesterday in place of Brian Bugosevic who hit the DL with a hamstring injury. Lake is ranked ninth on MLB.com for top 20 Cubs prospect list. The thing the Cubs must figure out is what position should Lake play? When he first came on to the scene he was a 2nd baseman, and now the Cubs had him playing at third base and the outfield in the minors. So once Lake figures that out I think he can focus in more on a prime position he will play consistantly, because according to report he has a infielders arm. So I know the Cubs would want to improve on that if his future position will be in the outfield. Lake is suppose to be the new wave of prospects that are suppose to come up through the Cubs minor league system and help them win. If those prospects can make a positive impact like Lake did tonight, Cub fans will have a lot to smile about in the coming years. Let’s just hope these guys get to the Majors in the next two-three years. The Cubs are still in search for their first World Series since 1908.
